EnergyReader.io, Weather Daybreak Update Tuesday, 25 August 2026 | ECMWF 00Z | Generated 10:30 UTC --- 00Z vs 12Z: What Shifted The 00Z run brought two clean revisions worth flagging. The primary change is a meaningful upward shift in European wind speeds for the late August–early September window, concentrated in the Amsterdam–Frankfurt corridor. The 12Z had this period relatively slack; the 00Z adds 3–5 km/h to peak forecasts across 1–6 September, with Amsterdam Sep 3 wind_max now at 23.0 (+4.9 vs yesterday), Sep 4 at 22.4 (+3.3), and Sep 6 at 24.5 (+4.0). Frankfurt Sep 3 also moves up to 15.9 (+3.5). That's a material revision for German and Dutch power curves heading into the first week of September. The counterpart move is a trimming of Australian wind forecasts for the near term. Melbourne Aug 27 wind_max is cut to 10.4 (−3.5) and Aug 28 to 8.9 (−4.1); Adelaide Aug 28 drops to 10.8 (−4.4). This shaves expected wind generation output through Thursday–Friday across the NEM, though the 15-day HDD accumulation of 85.0 for Melbourne and 66.8 for Adelaide signals the underlying heating demand story in Victoria and South Australia remains intact at winter-normal levels. Temperature structure in Europe is broadly unchanged from the 12Z. NW Europe week-1 averages hold near 17–18°C for Amsterdam and London, cooling into week 2 (Amsterdam 16.3°C, London 16.0°C). No dramatic revisions there; the thermal picture the 12Z showed is confirmed. --- Run-to-Run Momentum The European wind upward revision for the Sep 1–6 window is the more interesting signal from a momentum standpoint, and it warrants watching carefully. This is the second consecutive run adding wind speed to that window, the 12Z had already ticked up modestly from the 18Z, and now the 00Z adds another layer. That's not yet a firmly established trend, but two runs in the same direction is enough to treat it as a developing signal rather than noise. If the 12Z later today confirms again, traders positioned short on German wind output for the first week of September would face accumulating counter-evidence. On the Australian side, the wind-down revisions to Melbourne and Adelaide for Aug 27–28 represent a single-run cut, yesterday's run had these values flat, so there's no multi-run drift established. Treat the NEM near-term wind softness as a one-run revision requiring confirmation. The longer-range thermal picture for Europe continues to evolve consistently. The EC46 weekly outlook shows Amsterdam at 18.1°C for week 1 cooling to 16.3°C by week 2 and 15.7°C by week 3, with Frankfurt following the same arc from 18.6°C to 16.7°C to 16.0°C. The week-on-week cooling gradient has appeared in the last three successive runs without reversal, this is no longer a tentative signal. Combined with the IFS 10-day week-2 average of 15.5°C for Amsterdam (versus 16.6°C in week 1), the models are converging on a meaningful early-autumn cool-down across the Continent by the second week of September. HDD accumulation will start showing up in Dutch and German gas demand forecasts as that cool-down crystallizes. One number worth pausing on: Houston's 15-day CDD sits at 217.7 with a week-1 average of 30.0°C, unchanged from prior runs and consistent with a sustained late-summer heat load on ERCOT. Dallas is even heavier at 231.6 CDD over the same window, 33.8°C average. No revision there; the US South heat pattern is locked in and uncontested across runs. --- Bottom Line The 00Z does not fundamentally alter the trading picture from the 12Z, but it sharpens two specific edges: European wind generation for Sep 1–6 is being revised upward for the second consecutive run, which matters for TTF and German power spreads, and the European cool-down signal in weeks 2–3 continues to build with no reversal. The Australian near-term wind softness for Aug 27–28 is a single-run revision and needs the 12Z to confirm before it changes NEM positioning. Watch the 12Z today primarily for whether Amsterdam–Frankfurt Sep 1–6 wind speeds move up a third time, three consecutive runs in the same direction would shift that from developing signal to high-confidence forecast.
