Southern Hemisphere spring is accelerating in the opposite direction: Adelaide and Melbourne posted +2.0°C upward revisions for late September, with Sao Paulo adding +2.2°C for early October. Regional Seasonal Outlooks The agency consensus for European autumn is unusually tight. ECMWF's August seasonal bulletin projects temperatures exceeding the 80th climatological percentile across western, central, and southern Europe through the autumn season, with a wetter-than-average signal for southern and western parts, though ECMWF itself flags lower forecast skill in this region relative to tropical zones. DWD and Météo-France contribute to the same C3S multi-system ensemble underpinning that call, and neither is dissenting on the warm signal. Above-normal precipitation is projected for the Southwest to southern High Plains, the canonical El Niño US fingerprint, while the Pacific Northwest tilts slightly below normal, where the PDO cold signal appears to be counteracting the standard El Niño wet bias. In South America, ECMWF's El Niño precipitation template points to wetter-than-average conditions for southern areas. India's EC46 profile is notable for its stability: Mumbai holds between 26.1–27.1°C across all six weeks with narrow spread, consistent with ECMWF's below-average monsoon precipitation signal for southern Asia. Hydro & Storage Brazil's southern reservoir complex stands to benefit directly from the El Niño wet template for southern South America. If the event reaches the historic +2.5°C threshold CPC projects for OND, Paraná basin reservoir recovery could be substantial, structurally bearish for Brazil power forward curves into 2027. For Nordic hydro, ECMWF's wetter autumn signal for northwestern Europe is broadly consistent with above-average autumn inflows. EU gas storage enters the final injection weeks with the warm seasonal backdrop easing urgency on fill rates, though the trajectory relative to the five-year average warrants close attention through September as the shoulder season closes. Strategic Positioning - TTF Q4 2026 (Oct-Dec): ECMWF, Met Office, and DWD consensus on above-80th-percentile European autumn temperatures, reinforced by a positive AO trend over the next two weeks, supports a bearish bias on early-winter TTF.
