US Strategic Reserve More Than Half Depleted as DOE Advances IEA Emergency Drawdown

The U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve is more than half empty. A Department of Energy announcement on July 13 (2026-07-13) confirmed the SPR had dropped to 56% depleted, marking what the agency called "the next phase" of the United States' 172 million barrel contribution to the International Energy Agency's emergency release programme, Rigzone reported. ICE Brent crude front-month held at $80.16 per barrel on Wednesday (2026-08-05), off 0.58%, while NYMEX WTI front-month traded at $75.90, down 0.24%.
