00Z vs 12Z: What Shifted
The overnight run did not deliver a clean confirmation of the 12Z picture. The most notable revisions cluster around South Australian wind, mid-August cooling in New York, and a late-month temperature swing in São Paulo, each directionally meaningful but pulling in different directions.
Adelaide is the standout revision. The 00Z has added significant wind speed across the August 6–10 window: Aug 7 wind max up 3.4 km/h to 30.7, Aug 9 up 3.8 to 28.5, Aug 10 up 3.5 to 27.6. That is a coherent upward revision across three consecutive days in the same week, not scattered noise. Melbourne Aug 9 also ticks up 3.8 to 28.5, though the model simultaneously trims Melbourne's Aug 6 and late-August prints by 3.0–3.9, net effect is a near-term wind acceleration that fades back later in the period. For NEM wind generation traders, the Aug 7–10 window has gained credibility this run.
In the Northern Hemisphere, New York Aug 8 and Aug 9 each shed around 3°C off the temperature maximum, now 29.6 and 30.3 respectively. That is a meaningful step down in the heat load outlook for PJM and NYISO late in week 2, though 15-day CDD for New York still sits at 121.3 and the week-2 ensemble mean of 25.1°C suggests no broad cooldown is being priced in. Nagoya drops 3.3°C on Aug 3 to 30.3°C, a modest softening of the near-term Japan heat signal, with the CDD burden for Nagoya already heavy at 167.4. Shanghai wind is trimmed 3.0–3.7 km/h across Aug 1, 12, and 13, reducing offshore generation expectations modestly without materially altering the thermal load picture in a city averaging 30.7°C through the week.
Frankfurt's Aug 14 temperature max lifts 3.1°C to 29.1°C, a warm nudge at the outer edge of medium range that aligns with the ensemble warm bias signals already in the data.
Run-to-Run Momentum
The Adelaide wind upward revision deserves attention as a potential trend rather than noise. Three overlapping forecast days (Aug 7, 9, 10) all revised higher in the same run, and the Aug 9 Melbourne print moved in the same direction. If the 12Z continues this drift, it argues for a more active wind generation week across South Australia in the August 7–10 window, worth watching against NEM baseload positioning.
Frankfurt is showing something similar on the thermal side, though slower-moving. The 00Z day-5 ensemble warm bias probability is 54%, and the day-10 probability is 29%. The week-1 IFS mean of 24.7°C is running well above the 10-day average of 20.4°C, and now the Aug 14 max has been nudged up another 3.1°C. This is the second consecutive run putting upward pressure on the outer week temperature for Frankfurt, suggesting the late-week European heat extension is building rather than retreating. The week-2 ensemble range remains wide at 18.0–25.5°C, so confidence is not yet high, but the directional pressure is accumulating.
For New York and Nagoya, the overnight cooling revisions look more like single-run adjustments than trend. There is no prior run context showing consistent cooling pressure at those dates, and the broader 15-day CDD and ensemble outlook for both cities remain firmly in summer-demand territory. Treat those prints as noise until the 12Z confirms.
São Paulo is the wildcard. The 00Z cuts Aug 11 temp max by 4.1°C to 21.6°C and Aug 12 by 3.3°C to 21.7°C, while simultaneously adding 3.2°C back on Aug 22 to 26.2°C. That is a sharp mid-month dip followed by recovery, possible frontal passage timing, but the week-2 ensemble spread for São Paulo is enormous (13.5–22.3°C). This is not a trade yet.
Bottom Line
The 00Z does not fundamentally reprice last night's 12Z picture, but the Adelaide wind acceleration and the Frankfurt warm bias accumulation are both moving in consistent directions across consecutive runs and merit attention. New York and Nagoya cooling prints look like single-run softening against a still-bullish demand backdrop, not the start of a trend. Traders should watch whether the 12Z sustains the Adelaide Aug 7–10 wind lift and whether Frankfurt's outer-week temperature continues to edge higher, those two signals are the ones currently building run-on-run momentum.
