CPC now assigns a 69% probability that the October-December RONI value exceeds +2.5°C, a threshold that would make this the strongest event on record since 1950. The odds of at least a very strong event this fall and winter stand above 90%. The teleconnection backdrop complicates the simple warm-bias read. The NAO printed at -1.28 in July, and the QBO at 50 hPa sits at -1.2 m/s easterly, a combination historically associated with elevated sudden stratospheric warming risk in boreal winter and a higher frequency of blocking patterns over the North Atlantic. Southern and western Europe carry a wetter-than-average autumn signal in ECMWF guidance, though agency agreement here is lower than in the tropics. CMA seasonal guidance shows a similar warm tilt across central and southern China. Below-normal precipitation over Indonesia and the broader maritime continent is one of the highest-confidence signals in the ECMWF seasonal bulletin, all major systems agree, and directly supports elevated LNG demand as hydropower generation falters and utilities substitute thermal generation. Russia. Roshydromet's Siberian guidance leans slightly above normal in the west, near-normal in the far east. With the AO trending positive in GEFS, the near-term probability of early Siberian cold outbreaks is suppressed. By November, the QBO's influence on stratospheric dynamics becomes the dominant variable, a sudden warming event would flip the AO sharply negative and drive cold air deep into Eurasia. Americas. NOAA CPC's SON temperature outlook favors above-normal conditions for the western and central CONUS, Great Lakes, Northeast, and Mid-Atlantic, the highest probabilities (above 50%) concentrated in the Pacific Northwest, Northern Rockies, and northwestern California. Southwestern CONUS precipitation is tilted above normal, consistent with El Niño. For Brazil, ECMWF's wetter-than-average signal over southern South America supports La Plata and southeastern reservoir inflows, while the northern Amazonian basins face below-normal precipitation risk that constrains system-wide hydro recovery. Hydro & Storage EU gas storage enters autumn above the five-year average, and the ECMWF warm-biased seasonal outlook supports extending the injection window, a headwind for near-term gas prices. The risk is a false sense of buffer: the easterly QBO and a periodically negative NAO create the conditions for a storage draw-down event in January that storage-comfortable markets are not pricing. Nordic reservoirs are sensitive to the warm autumn signal, lower snowfall rates constrain the spring 2027 refill inflow. Brazil's hydro balance is bifurcated: the wet southern South America signal is constructive for Itaipu and southeastern generation, but northern basin deficits, consistent with El Niño's well-documented Amazon suppression, limit system-wide upside through January. The warm baseline argues for ample cover, but a single sudden stratospheric warming event in January would gap the contract sharply.
