Analysts at security and vessel-tracking firms told the BBC this week (week of 2026-08-03) that threats to shipping in the Gulf and the Red Sea have escalated to the worst safety situation since the Iran war began. Tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz is simultaneously sitting at its lowest in more than two months, according to OilPrice.com, as attacks on commercial vessels and persistent threats keep operators in defensive mode.
