Australian integrity body demands immediate soil carbon method fixes to cut over-crediting

Australia's carbon market integrity watchdog has called for urgent amendments to the soil carbon methodology, citing a significant risk that projects are generating credits that do not represent real emissions reductions. The Clean Energy Regulator's assessment, published in early June (2026-06-02), targets the estimation approach used to calculate how much carbon is actually stored in the ground, a method that underpins a large share of Australian Carbon Credit Unit supply.
