00Z vs 12Z: What Shifted
The overnight run brought no headline reversals but delivered a clear regional divergence across the forecast window. Europe's near-term pattern is essentially unchanged, Amsterdam holds 18–20°C through Tuesday before a Wednesday pull-back to 16.8°C, Frankfurt's week-1 average sits at 16.4°C, but the medium-range warmed notably. Frankfurt's week-2 average jumped to 18.3°C versus week-1's 16.4°C, and the EC46 ensemble puts Frankfurt at 21.6°C [17.6–25.9] in week 2, widening to 22.0°C [17.9–26.7] in week 3. That spread, nearly 9°C at the 90th percentile, tells you the ensemble is not converging on a European heat event; it is keeping the door open while the central run edges warmer.
The more meaningful overnight revision sits in Australia and, to a lesser extent, in the northern hemisphere wind picture. Adelaide's extended wind maxima for early August were revised upward by 3–5 km/h across multiple days (Aug 1: +4.2 to 22.9 km/h; Aug 2: +4.8 to 23.2 km/h; Aug 3: +3.9 to 22.7 km/h), while Melbourne followed in the same direction (Aug 1: +3.7 to 18.9 km/h; Aug 2: +4.2 to 18.6 km/h). That is a consistent NEM-wide signal for stronger wind generation in early August, not a single-station artefact. Brisbane, by contrast, saw its near-term wind maxima cut by 3–5 km/h on Thursday through Saturday (Jul 23: −4.7 to 12.7 km/h; Jul 24: −3.2 to 16.5 km/h; Jul 25: −3.6 to 11.6 km/h), reinforcing a split: weaker wind in southern Queensland this week, stronger conditions across South Australia and Victoria by early next month.
Run-to-Run Momentum
For Europe, the 00Z confirms a pattern that has been building across the last several runs: the second half of July into early August is trending warmer than seasonal norms, with Amsterdam's EC46 ensemble holding 19–19°C in weeks 2–3 and Frankfurt's central guidance pulling toward 22°C. This is not a single-run spike, the Frankfurt week-2 signal has drifted progressively warmer over consecutive runs, and the Paris week-3 mean of 22.9°C [19.3–27.0] sits well above the 20°C area. The ensemble spread remains wide enough that a significant cooling correction is possible, but the directional drift has been consistent. Models have not reversed.
Oslo's Jul 22 wind maximum was revised upward by 3.8 km/h to 18.5 km/h in the 00Z, a continuation of a modest tightening trend for Scandinavian offshore wind in the near term, marginal for Norwegian hydro-thermal dispatch but worth watching against the warmer European backdrop.
In Japan, Osaka and Nagoya week-1 cooling demand holds firm: both cities average 31.5°C over 15 days, Tokyo at 29.6°C with a CDD of 174.5. The Osaka Aug 7 wind maximum was revised up by 3.6 km/h to 13.5 km/h, a small but consistent late-summer signal for the Chubu region. The broader Japanese week-2 picture shows Nagoya easing from 30.4°C in week 1 to 28.8°C in week 2 per the EC46, which would moderate late-July power burn if it verifies. That cooling has appeared across two or three runs now; it is trending, not noise.
For the US, the 00Z changes nothing material. Dallas averages 36.0°C with 264.6 CDDs over 15 days, Houston at 32.6°C, Phoenix at 39.6°C. Henry Hub consumption support from heat demand in the south-central remains intact for this week and next. The Houston EC46 week-2 mean of 30.3°C [28.5–31.6] has a notably tight spread for a 2-week outlook, suggesting reasonable confidence in sustained heat.
Bottom Line
The 00Z does not change the trading picture materially from the 12Z, but it reinforces two emerging trends worth watching: European temperatures are drifting warmer in weeks 2–3 across multiple consecutive runs, particularly for Germany and France, which bears monitoring for TTF summer storage injection pace and EU power demand into August. In the southern hemisphere, the consistent upward revision to South Australian and Victorian wind maxima for early August is a second consecutive signal pointing toward stronger NEM renewable output at the start of next month, relevant to Queensland-to-south interconnector flows and spot exposure. Watch the 12Z run for whether the Frankfurt week-2 warming firms further or reverts, a third consecutive upward revision there would shift the signal from trending to established.
