Weather Daybreak Update, Monday, 13 July 2026 (ECMWF 00Z) 00Z vs 12Z: What Shifted The overnight run brought no dramatic pattern reversal, the broad synoptic picture for Europe and North America holds from last night's 12Z briefing. The headline shift is a modest wind revision for the UK and Scandinavia: London's day-6 peak (July 18) is now 17.6 km/h, up 4.2 from the 12Z, while Oslo loses 3.6 from its day-2 peak, now sitting at just 7.6 km/h on July 15. Neither revision is large enough on its own to move generation forecasts materially, but the UK upward nudge runs in the same direction as the last two runs, London wind has been creeping higher through successive 00Z/12Z cycles, not a reversal. The 10-day IFS mean for Amsterdam is 17.2°C with a pronounced step-down from week one (22.5°C in the EC46) to week two (20.4°C, range 17.5–23.6°C). That week-two retreat was visible in the 12Z data and the 00Z doesn't soften it, if anything the Frankfurt week-two read at 22.0°C (down from week one at 24.3°C) extends the signal into central Europe. Worth noting: the ensemble anomaly probabilities remain warm-skewed at day 10, Amsterdam 33%, London 38%, Paris 30%, meaning the cooling is relative to a warm week-one baseline, not a cold snap. Tokyo's maximum temperature for today ticked up 3.2°C to 32.9°C, a single-day revision rather than a trend and likely a mesoscale timing shift rather than a signal worth trading. Run-to-Run Momentum The clearest momentum signal sits in western Europe's near-term wind regime. London wind has been revised upward across three consecutive runs, a coherent drift rather than noise, while Frankfurt peaks remain contained in the 13 km/h range with no run-to-run movement of significance. The North Sea divergence (London higher, continental Europe calmer) is strengthening with each cycle. For European temperatures, the 00Z confirms what the 12Z introduced: a week-one warm pulse giving way to a week-two moderation. Frankfurt's week-one read at 24.3°C in the EC46 is notably above the 10-day IFS mean of 17.6°C, reflecting the warm immediate outlook, but week two at 22.0°C and then a week-three plateau around 22.4°C suggest the cooling is shallow and temporary rather than a sustained autumnal retreat. This pattern has been consistent across the last two runs; the 00Z is not diverging. The US heat load shows no material overnight revision. Dallas (31.9°C average over 15 days, 203.6 CDD), Houston (173.6), and Phoenix (259.5) remain in full mid-summer demand mode. Atlanta's heavy rainfall Monday and Tuesday, 17mm and 38mm, is notable for near-term suppression of cooling load, but the city rebounds sharply to 30.9°C by Friday, consistent with the 12Z picture. The 00Z offers no new cooling signal for ERCOT or PJM. Australian winter demand readings are stable and undramatic. Melbourne's 15-day HDD sits at 103.0 with a week-one EC46 mean of 9.7°C (range 8.6–10.8°C), Adelaide at 90.7 HDD. No run-to-run momentum in either direction for the NEM; the July mid-winter baseline holds. Bottom Line The 00Z does not alter the trading picture from last night's 12Z. Europe faces a warm but moderating week ahead, the week-two cool-down is now confirmed across multiple runs, but it's a retreat from elevated levels, not a bearish demand shock. The UK wind upward revision reinforces the case for stronger near-term generation in the North Sea corridor, though absolute levels remain modest. Watch whether the 12Z run extends the London wind upward trend a fourth time or snaps back; if it holds, NW European wind output expectations for the July 17–19 window warrant revision upward.
