00Z vs 12Z: What Shifted
The overnight run is a quiet one for the pattern that matters most to European power and gas. The 00Z holds Frankfurt's week-one mean near 25.3C and Paris near 27.2C, with the same sharp cool-off into week two, Frankfurt drops to 21.6C, Paris to 23.3C, Amsterdam to 19.9C. That week-1-to-week-2 step-down of roughly 3.5-4C across NW Europe is unchanged from last night; the 00Z did not blink on it. Day-5 warm-anomaly probabilities remain emphatic, Amsterdam 96% above 1sd, London 94%, Frankfurt 92%, so the near-term ridge over the continent is locked in on both runs.
The only material temperature revisions overnight sit on the US East Coast, and they push warmer. New York's late-window maxima were bumped up across the board: Jul 19 +3.1C to 33.9C, Jul 20 +3.5C to 33.3C, Jul 21 +3.0C to 32.3C. That is a consistent nudge, not a single-day flicker, and it lifts the back end of the New York CDD profile. Houston went the other way for mid-month, Jul 15 max shaved 2.9C to 30.3C, but the changes there are wind, not heat, and modest.
Run-to-Run Momentum
The persistent story is European week-2 cooling that has now survived another run. Frankfurt has held that ~21.5C week-2 solution against week-1 at 25.3C, and the ensemble is not fighting it: the day-10 warm bias for Amsterdam has decayed to 31% (from 96% at day 5) and London sits at 48%. The models are converging on the ridge breaking down after roughly July 20 rather than extending, this is the third-straight run keeping that timing, so treat it as trend, not noise. The wide week-2 spreads (Paris 19.8-27.5C, Frankfurt 17.5-25.9C) mean the *magnitude* of the cool-down is still unresolved, but the *direction* has firmed.
The US East Coast warming is the fresher, weaker signal. It appeared this run as a coherent multi-day bump for New York rather than a lone spike, which argues for a trend forming, but it is one run old. Watch whether the 12Z carries the 33C+ NYC maxima or lets them relax; a single confirming run turns this into a tradeable ISO-NE/PJM cooling-demand story, a reversal marks it as a 00Z outlier.
Wind is where the 00Z shuffled most, and almost all of it is Southern Hemisphere noise. The change list is dominated by Australian and Asian wind_max wobbles, Sydney Jul 15 +5.2 to 19.2 km/h, Seoul Jul 14 +5.0 to 27.6 km/h, a scatter of Melbourne/Brisbane/Osaka moves in both directions, with no coherent multi-run drift. These are the kind of ±3-5 km/h flips that reverse next run; do not build a NEM or JEPX wind read on them. For NW European power, the run keeps wind unremarkable: Amsterdam averaging 3.2 m/s, Frankfurt a slack 2.4 m/s, London 3.2 m/s over the next week, light generation into a warm, high-demand ridge, which is the setup that matters for German and French spot.
Bottom Line
The 00Z does not change the European trading picture from last night's 12Z: near-term continental heat is locked, week-2 cooling around July 20 is now three runs deep and converging on timing, and low wind persists into the ridge. The one thing the 00Z adds is a warmer US East Coast back-end, a real but unconfirmed shift worth flagging for cooling demand. On the 12Z, watch two things: whether New York holds its 33C+ maxima into next week, and whether the European week-2 spread starts to narrow around that cool-down or reopens. The Southern Hemisphere wind churn is noise, ignore it until a direction persists.
