Weather Daybreak Update, Wednesday, July 08, 2026 The 00Z run confirms what the last several 12Z runs have been building toward: Northwest European temperatures are heading lower from around July 11-12, consistent with the trough axis moving through. The near-term heatwave signal remains intact and is, if anything, reinforced, Paris day-5 probability of above-1.5 standard deviation warmth is sitting at 100% in the ECMWF ensemble, London day-5 at 95%. The 00Z is not walking back the heat, it is confirming it while also confirming the cool-down timing. What shifted overnight: The most concrete change is in Norwegian wind. Oslo's forecast wind maximum rises +5.2 km/h for July 11 and +4.0 km/h for July 12 versus yesterday's run, a meaningful upward revision for a key renewable generation market. That increase tracks with the trough passage timing: Atlantic westerlies reintroducing post-heatwave cloud and wind through Scandinavia in the July 11-13 window. This run-on-run Norwegian wind revision matters to power markets: higher wind output during the post-heatwave cooling period reduces gas-to-power burn at precisely the moment demand is easing from air conditioning. The combination is a double headwind for TTF in the days-7 to -10 window, though the absolute spread between confident heat now and confident wind later is itself a tradeable shape within the curve. Amsterdam holds 20-22°C through this week, with the day-by-day profile showing 24+°C arriving Sunday-Monday July 12-13, the 00Z IFS week-2 average for Amsterdam comes in at 22.5°C, notably above the EC46 ensemble week-2 of 20.0°C. That divergence is worth watching. The IFS 10-day is picking up what may be a ridge reload in week 2, while the EC46 medium-range ensemble is cooler. The 12Z run tonight will help resolve which view is leading. Paris tells a clearer story: week 1 IFS at 27.1°C collapses to week 2 at 22.5°C, a sharp 4.6°C step change, consistent with the trough pushing south through France around July 13-15. Frankfurt's 10-day IFS average is 22.3°C, with week 1 at 21.2°C and week 2 at 24.9°C. The week-2 German warmth is one of the more striking features of the 00Z run, EC46 shows Frankfurt week 2 at 22.5°C with a wide spread (19.1-26.4°C), so the 24.9°C in the IFS deterministic is near the warm end of the ensemble. This is not yet a converging signal; it is a possible ridge-reload scenario that a single model run is flagging and the ensemble is not yet supporting with high probability. Run-to-run momentum: For NW Europe, the multi-run trend has been pointing in one consistent direction: a few degrees cooler for days 4-6, then a possible warming reload that the models have been debating for three runs now without reaching a clear verdict. The July 11-12 Oslo/Amsterdam cooling revisions that appeared in the previous 12Z EC46 are now reinforced in the 00Z, which makes the cooling call for that period more credible. What is NOT converging is what follows, the week-2 IFS warm signal has not been stable across runs, and until the EC46 ensemble range narrows from its current 7°C spread for Frankfurt week 2, that is noise rather than signal. The Norwegian wind revisions, however, are converging. This is the second run flagging higher Nordic wind for July 11-12, which in the context of the falling temperature signal makes a coherent physical picture: trough passage, increased wind, lower demand from cooling, all at the same time. This convergence is the most actionable part of the 00Z run for European power and gas traders. US: Nothing shifted overnight for North American markets. Houston 15-day average temperature is 30.9°C with a CDD accumulation of 188.7 over the period. Dallas averages 33.4°C. The CDD signal is steady and persistent, the 00Z is not revising US summer heat in any meaningful way. Chicago's 108.3 15-day CDD represents a warm-but-not-extreme summer bias. Power burn in ERCOT, MISO, and PJM remains elevated. Henry Hub consumption support from power generation continues on the 00Z with no change from the 12Z picture. Japan is also unchanged: Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka all show 150-165 CDD accumulations over 15 days, averaging 28-29°C. The El Niño-correlated warmth pattern is stable. The 00Z adds nothing new to the Asian temperature picture. Bottom line: The 00Z confirms the near-term European heatwave (no change from 12Z), confirms the mid-July cooling (now a two-run trend rather than one), and reinforces the Norwegian wind pick-up that would suppress Nordic gas burn. What the 00Z leaves unresolved is the week-2 IFS warm signal for Germany, the 12Z run tonight is the one to watch, specifically whether the IFS deterministic 24.9°C Frankfurt week-2 number either finds support in the ensemble spread or reverts toward the EC46 consensus. US and Japan heat holds with high model confidence across both runs.
