Weather Daybreak Update, Tuesday, 7 July 2026
The 00Z ECMWF run confirms what the evening models were signalling: a high-confidence warm spell through the first week gives way to a marked cool-down across Northwest Europe in week two. The Amsterdam temperature revision is the headline, but the London week-two collapse in the ECMWF ensemble is sharper than the 12Z showed.
00Z vs 12Z: What Shifted
The most concrete change is in London. The 00Z ECMWF has week-one averaging 21.5°C across the 10-day window, then dropping to 18.1°C in week two, a 3.4-degree week-on-week swing that was not present at this amplitude in yesterday evening's 12Z. Amsterdam follows a softer version of the same pattern: week one at 21.1°C, week two 20.6°C, week three 19.0°C per the EC46, with the day-13 temperature max cut by 3.0°C from yesterday's run to 26.9°C. Frankfurt is more stable, the 00Z holds 20.2°C average across both weeks, with the EC46 week-one reading of 24.4°C gradually moderating toward 21.1°C by week six, roughly matching last night's guidance.
Paris is the outlier. The 00Z ECMWF puts Paris week two at 26.8°C versus 25.5°C week one, warmer, not cooler. The EC46 week-one ensemble for Paris sits at 28.2°C and the 46-day trajectory stays between 22.3°C and 28.2°C across weeks one through six. The split between Paris holding heat while London and Amsterdam cool points to a synoptic transition: a frontal boundary likely crosses Northern Europe week two without penetrating as far south as France.
Near-term, the ensemble is emphatic. London day-five warm probability is 100% above one standard deviation, 100% above 1.5 sigma. Paris day-five is identical, every member of the ECMWF ensemble is in the warm tail at five days. Amsterdam day-five is 98% above one sigma, 70% above 1.5 sigma. By day ten, those numbers collapse: Amsterdam falls to 61%, Frankfurt to 53%. The confidence interval widens sharply beyond day seven, which limits how much weight to put on the precise week-two numbers. But the direction is consistent across models.
The wind forecast changes are worth noting for power traders. The 00Z cut Oslo wind max on 8 July by 4.4 km/h to 10.5 km/h, and the EC46 Oslo week-three forecast drops to 16.3°C with the lower end of the spread at 13.8°C, Scandinavian demand inching up slightly versus what the 12Z implied. In Australia, the 00Z has revised Melbourne wind max higher on 18 August by 4.5 km/h and Sydney on 11 July by 3.3 km/h, not material for immediate NEM dispatch, but a small positive for wind-heavy South Australia into the Southern Hemisphere winter.
Run-to-Run Momentum
The NW European cooling signal is building. Yesterday's 12Z was the first run to show the Amsterdam temperature revision; the 00Z confirms it and extends it to London. This is the second consecutive run moving in the same direction. That qualifies as early convergence, not a single-run spike. Whether it becomes a third-run confirmation, which would be a more reliable signal, depends on the 12Z later today.
For the US, there is no run-to-run volatility worth flagging. Houston, Dallas, and Phoenix are locked in: CDD accumulations of 206, 225, and 295 over the 15-day window respectively, with the EC46 holding Houston's six-week average between 28.9°C and 30.1°C in a tight spread. The gas power burn call is stable. New York shows a brief CDD-heavy week two (EC46 week two at 25.9°C, spread 22.5°C–30.1°C) before moderating, that wide spread week two is ensemble divergence on a potential trough track, not consensus.
Japan's warming trajectory is consistent. The 00Z EC46 has Nagoya rising from 24.1°C week one to 26.4°C by week five, Osaka from 24.7°C to 26.0°C, the run-to-run picture here has been stable for several days. Tokyo is tracking 25.4°C week one to 27.7°C week six. Cooling demand in the JEPX zones is building toward peak summer levels.
Bottom Line
The 00Z does modestly change the European picture from the 12Z: the London week-two cool-down is more pronounced than last evening's run suggested, while Paris holds warmer for longer. The near-term heat signal (days one through five) is so strong, 100% ensemble warm probability for London and Paris, that it dominates the short-dated power and gas picture. Watch the 12Z run today for a third consecutive confirmation of the Northwest European cooling trend week two; if it materialises, the injection-season TTF spread between August and September tightens. Houston and Dallas CDD paths are stable, no change to the US power burn outlook.
