Weather Daybreak Update, Sunday, July 05, 2026

Weather Daybreak Update, Sunday, July 05, 2026 The 00Z ECMWF run this morning does not walk back yesterday's heat revision. It confirms it. London hits 100% warm-anomaly probability at day 5 (>1SD above normal), Paris matches that at 93% above 1.5SD, figures that leave almost no room for ensemble ambiguity. This is not a single-run spike that needs monitoring. The models have converged. 00Z vs 12Z: What Shifted The large forecast changes flagged against yesterday's run, Frankfurt day 8 jumping +6.0°C to 28.3°C, Paris day 8 to 33.1°C (+5.3°C), London day 8 to 31.5°C (+5.0°C), these revisions are now embedded in the 00Z as baseline, not as outliers. The 00Z ECMWF IFS has Frankfurt's week-2 mean at 23.8°C (week 1: 21.0°C), Paris at 25.7°C week 2 (week 1: 24.3°C), London at 20.4°C week 2 (week 1: 22.4°C, London actually cools from its hot early-week peak). The day-by-day data tells the sharper story: Paris runs 26.9°C Monday and Tuesday, 27.7°C Thursday, then pushes to 30.4°C Friday and 31.8°C Saturday. Frankfurt holds at 24-25°C through Thursday before climbing to 28.2°C by Saturday. London peaks Thursday at 27.8°C, holds elevated through Saturday at 26.5°C. The only meaningful overnight shift is the extension of the heat into the late-week slot. The 12Z yesterday had the warmest day-8 signal; the 00Z is now showing an amplifying trajectory that extends the peak into the Jul 10-11 window rather than peaking and retreating. The ridge is tracking slightly later and likely stronger. Amsterdam follows but with less intensity: 22.0°C week 2 in the EC46, day 10-11 reaching 26.6-28.7°C in the open-meteo day-by-day. Wind averages 15.4 km/h across the 8-day period, modest for summer, limiting offshore wind contribution from the North Sea. Run-to-Run Momentum The trajectory of the last 24-48 hours of model runs is unambiguous. This is at least the second consecutive run extending and intensifying the NW European heat signal. The ECMWF 00Z ensemble anomaly probabilities at day 5, London 100% (>1SD), 96% (>1.5SD); Paris 100% (>1SD), 93% (>1.5SD), reflect a near-total consensus among ensemble members on the warm solution for the near term. Even at day 10, London holds at 80% above 1SD, 64% above 1.5SD, and Paris at 71% above 1SD, 59% above 1.5SD. These are robust signals, not single-member outliers. Frankfurt at day 5 shows a more moderate 62% above 1SD, rising to 71% above 1SD by day 10 with 55% above 1.5SD. Continental interior volatility keeps Frankfurt's ensemble spread wider than the Atlantic-facing cities, but the direction is identical. The EC46 6-week trajectory shows the heat episode concentrated in weeks 1-2 before the ensemble spread widens markedly in weeks 3-4. Frankfurt week 2: 25.2°C (range 21.0-29.7°C). Paris week 2: 26.0°C (range 21.6-30.5°C). From week 3 onward, both cities show convergence toward low-20s, consistent with a ridge breakdown in the third week of July. The near-term signal is converging; the medium-term is not. For New York, Monday is a washout: 22.3°C with 97.8mm of rain against Sunday's 28.5°C. That precipitation event clears by mid-week, with the city recovering to 25.6°C by Friday. No sustained heat event for the US Northeast; the hot pulse is front-loaded into the weekend. Bottom Line The 00Z run does not change the trading picture, it confirms it, and extends the heat window slightly into the Jul 10-11 period. The models are converging on a sustained NW European heat episode running from now through roughly July 11-12, with Paris reaching 31-33°C, Frankfurt 28-30°C, and London 26-28°C on the hottest days. The key risk to watch on the 12Z run is whether the late-week amplification (Jul 10-11) holds or whether the Atlantic trough makes an earlier eastward incursion than the 00Z ensemble implies. If the ridge sustains through Saturday July 11, European power cooling load across the week will outpace what spot markets have priced for a mid-summer weekend.
