Amsterdam's day-10 maximum temperature revised +3.4°C versus Thursday's (2026-07-02) 12Z run, now reaching 29.5°C. Frankfurt revised +3.0°C on July 9 and again +2.8°C on July 10 in the same comparison, reaching 28.2°C and 31.3°C respectively. Oslo revised +2.6°C on July 9 to 23.0°C, a reading at the high end of its seasonal range. Paris revised +2.6°C on July 10 to 21.3°C in the weekly mean, while the day-by-day data shows a maximum of 27.5°C on July 9 with CDD of 5.5. New York tells the opposite story. The 00Z cooled July 7 maximum by -3.3°C to 25.6°C and July 8 by -2.8°C to 25.8°C. Today's reading in New York sits at 33.5°C with CDD of 11.5, genuine heat stress, but Saturday's (2026-07-04) 45 km/h wind signal points to a frontal passage. The ensemble confirms a fast break: Sunday (2026-07-06) drops to 26.1°C with 4.3 mm rain, Monday to 24.1°C. The US east coast heat spike is ending, not extending. In continental Europe, the picture is the reverse. The open-Meteo day-by-day data shows London building from 20.5°C today to 25.8°C on July 9 and 25.9°C on July 10, with CDD values of 3.8 and 3.9 respectively on those days, low by US standards but meaningful for a market where cooling demand is not structurally embedded. Frankfurt's peak appears on July 6 at 23.2°C with CDD of 1.2 before a brief pullback and then recovery to 22.2°C on July 9. Run-to-Run Momentum The European warm signal has been amplifying across multiple runs. The 00Z confirmed and extended what the 12Z was already showing, pushing Amsterdam's day-10 maximum beyond 29°C and Frankfurt's above 28°C in the peak. This is not a single-run outlier, the EC46 weekly ensemble independently shows week-two means of 21.5°C for Amsterdam and 24.7°C for Frankfurt, with ensemble probability distributions skewed clearly warm: Amsterdam day-10 shows an 80% probability of exceeding +1 standard deviation above normal, P(>1.5sd warm) at 55%. Frankfurt day-10 is at 81% warm bias with P(>1.5sd warm) at 55%. Paris day-10 is the most extreme: 88% warm bias, with P(>1.5sd warm) at 80%. The run-to-run momentum in Europe over the past 24 hours is thus consistently warm and amplifying in the day 7-10 window, while the first half of the forecast period (day 1-5) remains closer to seasonal norms. Frankfurt day-5 shows a slight cold bias (50% probability of exceeding +1sd cold, P(>1.5sd cold) at 22%), which reflects transitional weather before the warm pattern consolidates. For wind, the signal is weak and low. ECMWF 10-day average wind speeds for NW European cities are 2.4 m/s for Amsterdam, 2.2 m/s for Frankfurt, 2.8 m/s for London and 2.9 m/s for Paris. Peak gusts reach only 2.9 m/s (Frankfurt) to 4.6 m/s (Amsterdam) over 10 days. This is consistent with a weakly-circulating, blocking-influenced pattern driving the heat, low wind speeds during a heat episode suppress wind generation and lift the residual load that gas and other thermal sources must cover. The New York cooling revision signals a genuine run-to-run pattern reversal for the US northeast: two consecutive runs have now cooled the day 5-7 window after initial forecasts showed the heat extending. The front is arriving broadly as expected; the market can discount the early-week heat stress as a transient, not a structural signal for week two. Bottom Line The 00Z changes the picture at the margin for European energy markets, not the US. The European heat pulse in the day 7-10 window is confirmed and amplified, with Paris reaching 27.5°C on July 9 and Amsterdam potentially touching 29.5°C in day-10 maxima, both above seasonal norms and sufficient to drive air-conditioning load across markets where cooling is not the dominant seasonal demand driver. With NW European wind speeds averaging 2.2-2.4 m/s and some hourly readings near their minimum in the low-0.4 m/s range, wind generation will not meaningfully offset the thermal call during the peak. Traders should watch the 12Z run today for confirmation that the blocking pattern driving this heat is locking in rather than retreating. If the 12Z holds the day-10 warm anomaly at 80-88% probability while Frankfurt day-5's cold bias dissolves, the path to a sustained NW European heat episode in the July 9-12 window becomes the base case. The prior run amplified; a flat or further amplifying 12Z confirms the trend.
