Weather Daybreak Update, Tuesday, June 30, 2026

By EnergyReader Newsroom ·
Weather Daybreak Update, Tuesday, June 30, 2026 The ECMWF 00Z run confirms rather than revises last night's 12Z temperature picture for NW Europe. The dominant overnight change was in wind fields, not temperatures. 00Z vs 12Z: What Shifted Overnight changes to the European temperature forecast are minimal. Frankfurt, Amsterdam, London, and Paris day-by-day sequences are essentially unchanged from the 12Z: Frankfurt 24.3°C today cooling mid-week (20.8°C Thursday) on 8.4mm of rainfall, then recovering to 23.2°C by Monday. London holds in the 20–21°C band through Thursday before building steadily to 27.0°C on Monday July 6, where it accumulates 5.0 CDD, the single highest daily accumulation in the NW European window. Paris tracks similarly, peaking at 25.7°C Monday with 3.7 CDD. The revision list is dominated by wind changes and non-European locations. Shanghai July 11–13 wind maxima increased 3.9–6.5 km/h. Frankfurt July 4 wind maximum revised up 3.7 km/h to 17.2 km/h. Nothing in the European temperature record shifted by more than 1°C at the day-by-day level. For traders reading this alongside the 12Z briefing: the 00Z adds no new information on the temperature trajectory. Run-to-Run Momentum The week-two and week-three warming signal for NW Europe has now built over multiple consecutive runs. The EC46 shows Amsterdam week two at 22.3°C (range: 18.5–26.6°C) and week three at 22.0°C, both well above the week-one baseline of 18.8°C. Frankfurt week two is 25.0°C (range: 20.9–29.0°C) and week three reaches 25.8°C with an upper tail extending to 30.7°C. These values were revised warmer by 2.4–3.0°C versus yesterday's 12Z EC46 run, and the 00Z ECMWF IFS is consistent with that picture: London week two 24.0°C against a week-one reading of 20.8°C; Paris week two 27.3°C. The ECMWF ensemble anomaly probabilities at day 10 are the strongest confirmation. London shows an 83% probability of exceeding +1 standard deviation warm and a 66% probability of exceeding +1.5 standard deviations. Paris registers 84% and 68% respectively. These are high-confidence signals. The direction has been persistent and consistent across multiple runs; this is a trend, not a single-run outlier. The 00Z confirming the 12Z, after the 12Z had already revised the EC46 warmer by 2–3°C, is a third consecutive data point pointing the same way. The AO GEFS 16-day ensemble supports this: AO trending positive through the forecast window, reaching +1.89 by day seven. Positive AO suppresses blocking and maintains zonal westerly flow, which in the current pattern means the warm anomaly stays elevated rather than being interrupted by Atlantic cold surges. What the 00Z does not confirm is any change to the near-term volatility. Frankfurt's mid-week dip, Wednesday rain and Thursday 20.8°C, remains intact. Wind generation improves slightly Thursday (Amsterdam 22 km/h, London 20 km/h), giving a one-day respite from the high-temperature, low-wind pattern that has prevailed. That respite does not alter the week-two picture. New York is running very hot independently. The 00Z shows a CDD accumulation of 94 over 15 days, with Thursday June 2 hitting 31.8°C (9.8 CDD) and the long weekend sustained above 30°C through Saturday. This is demand-supportive for NYISO and PJM through the July 4 holiday. No meaningful change from 12Z. Tokyo accumulates 56.7 CDD over the 15-day window (average 25.8°C), confirming sustained Japanese cooling demand ahead of peak summer. Bottom Line The 00Z changes nothing material in the trading picture from last night. The week-two warming signal for Central and NW Europe, Frankfurt at 25–26°C, London and Paris at 24–27°C, is building confidence run-on-run and is now well-supported by ensemble anomaly probabilities. Watch the 12Z run this evening for whether the Frankfurt week-three upper tail (30.7°C) holds or erodes: if it holds, Rhine cooling-intake risk for thermal generation becomes relevant from July 14 onwards. The Monday July 6 London CDD spike of 5.0 is the first concentrated GB demand event of the period; the July 12Z will be the better run to confirm whether day-14 heat at Frankfurt is a sustained pattern or the edge of ensemble skill.
