Weather Daybreak Update, Sunday, June 28, 2026

By EnergyReader Newsroom ·
Weather Daybreak Update, Sunday, June 28, 2026 The 00Z ECMWF run confirms and amplifies the single most important shift from the 12Z: a pronounced ridge is building over western Europe in the first week of July, and the models are not letting go of it. This is not a one-run spike. 00Z vs 12Z: What Shifted The overnight run delivered a sweeping upward revision to NW European temperatures in the 7–9 July window. Paris hits 31.5°C on 7 July, up +5.3°C versus yesterday's run, and 31.9°C on 8 July (+4.9°C). London reaches 29.0°C on 7 July (+4.7°C), Frankfurt 28.6°C on 8 July (+4.7°C). Amsterdam follows at 25.5°C on 8 July (+4.3°C). The revisions are consistent across all four cities and across consecutive days, 6, 7, 8, and 9 July all show substantial warming of 3.8–5.3°C, which rules out a localised artefact. The 00Z also cut wind maxima across the region for the immediate period: Frankfurt's wind max on 28 June dropped 5.1 km/h, Amsterdam's on 30 June fell 4.2 km/h. Lower wind output entering the heat window is the compounding factor for European power. Run-to-Run Momentum This is a confirming trend, not a reversal. The 00Z has reinforced a warming signal that the EC46 had already embedded in its week 2 trajectory: Paris week 2 at 25.4°C and London week 2 at 22.5°C both sit above the week 1 ensembles, and the ECMWF IFS shows London's second-week average at 25.3°C versus 18.2°C in week 1, a 7°C step-up. The ensemble anomaly probabilities at day 10 are directionally clear: London shows a 74% probability of warm anomaly exceeding one standard deviation, Paris 72%, Amsterdam 60%. The confidence at the 1.5 standard deviation threshold is particularly elevated for London at 65% and Paris at 53%. Two consecutive runs have now shifted the July temperature ceiling upward substantially. The pattern is converging, not oscillating. Today's 14-day CDD accumulations reflect the loading: Paris and London both register 68.5 and 39.0 cooling degree-days respectively across the 15-day window, well above typical late-June baselines. Frankfurt hits 58.1 CDDs. These are not seasonal noise, they are directional demand signals pointing toward elevated gas-for-power burn as residential and commercial air conditioning drives up the load curve into the 6–9 July window. The short-range picture, however, maps a distinct cooling trough ahead of the July ridge. Amsterdam drops from 24.8°C today to 17.6°C by Thursday 2 July, with a stretch of rain and elevated wind through the midweek. Frankfurt similarly falls from 31.2°C today to 17.9°C by Saturday 4 July. This midweek trough is the transition that precedes the ridge. The 00Z does not suggest it disappears; it confirms it as the setup mechanism before the warmer air mass pushes in from the south. Bottom Line The 00Z locks in the July heat narrative. Traders who read last night's 12Z briefing should mark-to-market: the ridge is not weakening, it is strengthening, and the revisions are large enough to shift the forward power demand picture materially. The key variable to watch on the 12Z run today is whether the amplitude holds above 30°C for Paris on 7–8 July, that is the threshold where residential cooling demand surpasses historical summer peaks for that market. Wind suppression accompanying the high adds a supply-side tightening dimension to the demand signal. The models are converging; the only open question is peak amplitude and whether the warmth extends into the 10–14 July window or breaks earlier.
