The key change since yesterday: the ensemble has firmed on a sharp week-1-to-week-2 regime flip, with NW European anomalies collapsing from roughly +5C this week toward seasonal-to-slightly-below by the final days of June. Synoptic Setup and Forecast Evolution The governing feature is a high-amplitude ridge over Western Europe, an extension of the subtropical Azores high that has tilted northeast to plant 500-hPa heights well above normal from Iberia through the North Sea coast. Extended Range and Regime (Weeks 3-6) The defining regime question is whether the week-2 Atlantic breakdown evolves into a durable westerly pattern or a brief interruption before the ridge rebuilds. The EC46 weeklies lean toward sustained cooler-than-week-1 conditions across NW Europe, Paris, London, and Frankfurt all hold in the low-20s from week 3 onward, well below the week-1 heat but with wide envelopes (Frankfurt week-5 spanning 18C to 27C) that reflect genuine uncertainty about ridge persistence. This is a pattern that has lost its lock, not one that has settled into a new state. The teleconnection backdrop is neutral and offers little steering. NAO sits near -0.31 and the GEFS forecast oscillates around zero through the period, no committed push toward either blocking (-NAO) or zonal (+NAO) flow, consistent with the ensemble's own indecision about the week-2 outcome.
