Europe's Post-Pipeline Gas Rebuild Holds as US Envoys Shuttle Between Moscow and Kyiv

Both developments revive a supply question for European gas traders: whether any ceasefire arrangement could bring Russian pipeline gas back into play on any near-term timeline, given how far supply restructuring has progressed since 2022.7
Ukraine halted Russian gas transit to European customers on Wednesday (2026-05-13), NPR reported, after a prewar transit deal expired.1 Before the full-scale invasion, Russia supplied close to 40% of the EU's pipeline natural gas; EU Commission data show that share had already collapsed to roughly 8% by 2023, and the formal transit halt removed even that residual volume from European supply balances.1
